BENOIT MOREAU Chassagne-Montrachet "Les Charrieres" 2021

Wine Region: Burgundy - France

Grape: Chardonnay

Tasting notes: "The 2021 Chassagne-Montrachet Charrières derives from the upper part of a climat directly below premier cru Vide Bourse, planted with old vines on SO4 rootstock which now, in their old age, produce low yields of small grapes (Moreau also has holdings lower down in the climat, which there's less of a slope and fewer small stones, but that fruit goes into his generic bottling). Wafting from the glass with scents of lime zest, orange oil, white flowers, crisp stone fruit and freshly baked bread, it's medium to full-boded, satiny and layered, with a fleshy core of fruit and a racy, electric profile. This is clearly a superior site that deserves to be better known." - William Kelley, The Wine Advocate

About the winery:
Following the division of Domaine Bernard Moreau in November 2020, Benoit Moreau took his share of the vineyard to start his own estate. Before the separation, Bernard’s sons, Alex and Benoit, worked in the family estate, Domaine Bernard Moreau, along with their father until 1999. Later Alex and Benoit became the sole custodians of the family domain for the last 21 years, from 1999 to 2020. The first vintage from Benoit’s own vineyard is 2021. "Moreau is clearly an accomplished winemaker who is hitting the ground running. Overnight, a new star has been added to Chassagne's firmament, and importers will want to beat a path to Benoit's door." - William Kelley, The Wine Advocate
