THE STORY: The family legend says that German native Kurt Bouchert served as a soldier in the army of Louis XIII and distinguished himself in the capture of La Rochelle. For that he was conferred the noble title and a piece of fertile land near Saint Emilion. During the times of Napoleon III, Kurt de Bouchert’s descendent - Pierre de Bouchert gained the right to supply his wine to Paris. This wine got the name ”second original”. Pierre de Bouchert also increased the size of the estate to about 400 ha, by purchasing surrounding land. He built the family castle du Puy on the bank of the Dordogne River. After WW1 the impoverished children of Pierre de Bouchert had sell the property off bit by bit. Château Lestage got its current shape in 1931. The last of the Bourchert family named the remaining part of the estate Lestage (dead load), thus admitting the vineyards's secondary role, even though the annual production of the excellent wines of Tage de Lestage, Château de Lestage and Château du Puy was about 120 000 bottles.
