Tasting notes: I often have a preference for the ethereal Clos de la Cave, but this year, it's the 2021 Volnay Vieilles Vignes that gets my nod as Bouley's finest communal-level bottling. Derived from vines that see all-day sun and little in the way of breeze and located in the red clay soils below premier cru Carelles, it opens in the glass with notes of cherries, red berries, blood orange and peony, followed by a medium to full-bodied, ample and fleshy palate that's rich and pure, framed by sweet, powdery tannins. It attained 13.1% natural alcohol, an impressive feat in this vintage. William Kelley - Wine Advocate

About the winery:
Jean-Marc Bouley creates his domain in 1974 to which he will add, ten years later, his father's one. With his son, Thomas, they combine traditional methods and modern technology to produce concentrated wines, with good fruit, elegance and roundness. From 2012, Thomas runs the vineyard and intends to place his wines among the best of Volnay.
