Grape: Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot
Tasting notes: Chateau Smith Haut Lafitte 2016 is a deep, nearly black hue with a wonderfully complex nose
combining refined aromas of blackberry, black cherry and raspberry and delicate floral notes and
mild spices with touches of star anise, smoke and flint…
On the palate, it is powerful, elegant and undeniably seductive. The attack is balanced with
wonderful concentration, density and freshness. Offering fullness, concentration, power, refinement,
freshness, complexity and intense aromas of fruit, flowers, spices and smoke, the 2016 vintage of
Chateau Smith Haut Lafitte is a masterpiece.
About the winery: Located in the heart of the appellation of Pessac-Leognan Chateau Smith Haut Lafitte is one of the oldest Chateau in Bordeaux, dating to 1365. Ski champions Daniel and Florence Cathiard purchased the iconic property in 1990, initiating a period of investment and renewed passion. Of the chateau's 78 hectares of vines, 67 are dedicated to producing red wine (35% Merlot, 55% Cabernet Sauvignon, 9% Cabernet Franc), and 11 to produce a predominately Sauvignon Blanc white. Chateau Smith Haut Lafitte wines develop a vibrant expressiveness and complexity marked by perfectly ripe fruits.
