Wine Region: Tuscany - Italy
Grape: Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Sangiovese
Tasting notes: "2019 gives us a Le Volte dell’Ornellaia with great balance and expressivity. With its bright ruby-red colour, intense scents of red berries and rose petals are clearly distinguishable on the nose, while on the palate the taste is full-bodied and enveloping, characterised by dense tannins and a vibrant acidity which make this a highly pleasant and enjoyable wine." - Olga Fusari, Winemaker
About the winery:
In the early 1970s, Mario Incisa Della Rocchetta kickstarted the "Super Tuscans" category with Sassicaia. In 1981, his cousin, Lodovico Antinori, founded the Ornellaia estate on property neighbouring the Sassicaia estate. Ornellaia released its first Tuscan Bordeaux blend in 1985 and celebrated the opening of its winemaking facility two years later. Ornellaia is located on the Tuscan Coast, overlooking the Tyrrhenian Sea, in the section of the Northern Maremma between Livorno and the island of Elba. In 1991 Michel Rolland joined the team as a consulting oenologist and created Le Volte.
