Wine Region: Bordeaux - France

Grape: Semillon, Sauvignon Blanc

Tasting notes: The wine is a glittering pale yellow. On the nose, fresh fruits notes, especially white peach and citrus, mingle with white blossom and boxwood. These aromas open up with airing, and the mineral character emerges, along with a touch of spice. On the palate, the attack is both powerful and elegant. The wine displays beautiful balance: roundness and liveliness combine harmoniously, then freshness and minerality come to the fore on the length.

About the winery:
Chateau Coutet was recognised as a Classified First Growth in the 1855 classification, but the lands around Barsac, among the coldest in the area, had already been planted with vines for centuries. Originally from Alsace, Marcel Baly and two of his sons, Philippe and Dominique, became the new owners of Chateau Coutet in 1977. With zeal and determination, they set about the task of renewing the vineyard and the winery buildings. In 1994, the two brothers concluded an agreement with Baron Philippe de Rothschild SA. The winemaking team is now advised by the technical staff from Chateau Mouton Rothschild.
Drawing on their detailed knowledge of the Chateau Coutet terroir and its potential, the Baly family set a new challenge for themselves: creating a great dry white wine. Applying the same standards as for their premium wine, and after several attempts, they made the first vintage of Opalie in 2010.
