About the winery:
Château Poujeaux is a well-regarded former Cru Bourgeois wine estate located in the Moulis-en-Médoc sub-appellation of the Haut-Médoc wine region, just north of Bordeaux city, on the so-called "left bank" of the Gironde estuary.
The estate spans 52 hectares (130 acres) with its vineyard – unusally for Bordeaux estates, especially in this area – on a single plot of land. The vineyard itself is composed of 50 percent Cabernet Sauvignon, 40 percent Merlot, and five percent each of Petit Verdot and Cabernet Franc.
This composition is generally reflected in the estate's flagship wine (or "grand vin") which is predominantly made from Cabernet Sauvignon, blended with Merlot and smaller amounts of Petit Verdot and Cabernet Franc. It has an estimated production of 250,000 bottles a year.
