About the Winery: The Domaine de la Commaraine, its Clos of 3.63 ha and its Château have deep roots in the history of Burgundy as they existed since the XII century.
This Clos in Monopole is one of the most prestigious premiers crus in Pommard and one of the most highly-regarded Climats in Burgundy.
In their book on the great wines of Burgundy in 1892, Danguy and Aubertin specified that "in terms of the most well-known Climats, let us named la Commaraine in first position."
This opinion was endorsed by Jean-François Bazin in his book "Le vin de Bourgogne" ("Wines of Burgundy"), in which he stated that le Clos de la Commaraine is one of the three Climats in Pommard which could perhaps be recognized as a grand cru.
